School Closing Procedure

Parents are reminded that the following procedures will be followed when bad weather or emergencies make it necessary for school to be canceled or dismissed early.

Based on the forecast the night before, we generally have a good idea if the potential for closing is a real possibility. If it is, our school superintendent may speak with our transportation director, staff from the Town of Irondequoit Highway Department, our school district Director of Facilities, and other superintendents from the area to discuss the conditions and the impact they could have on our students and staff.

Ideally the decision to close is made as early as possible so that everyone can be notified. Families will be notified by phone through Blackboard Connect-please make sure your school has the most up-to-date number that you want to use to be contacted.

The local media will also be informed and closing information will be posted on the district’s website (www.eastiron.org), Facebook page and Twitter account (@EICSD).

Tune to any of the following stations:

Radio-WHAM (1180), KISSFM (106.7), WHTK (1280), THE DRIVE (100.5), WDKX (104), FICKLE (93.3 FM) WRMM (101.3), ZONE (94.1)

Television-WHEC (TV 10), WROC (TV 8), TIME WARNER CABLE NEWS, WHAM (TV 13)

The same procedure will be followed for early dismissal and cancellation of after school and evening activities.
Bus riders will be returned home in the same order as a regular school day. Parents are encouraged to develop a plan in the event of an early dismissal, and to discuss it with their child(ren).

On rare occasions the decision to close school could be made the night before, but that is generally not the case.

*Continuing Education classes will be canceled when schools are closed.

Remember, parents are the final authority in deciding whether they believe that weather conditions are too severe for their child to travel to and from school. Weather related absences are legal absences, however, parents are required to notify the school if their child(ren) will not be attending.
