A message from Superintendent Mary Grow

A Message from the Superintendent and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

The East Irondequoit school community is built on the principles of care and trust. It is the foundation of our decision-making matrix, and it is the means to achieving excellence and equity for all children.

To achieve both excellence and equity in our schools, we, as educators in East Irondequoit, will provide all students with appropriate learning opportunities and nurture school communities that are welcoming and affirming environments, with high expectations for learning, utilizing resources and content that is inclusive of every child because it reflects our student body, racially, culturally, and linguistically.

As practitioners we continuously educate ourselves to be more conscious of differences, more culturally competent and more culturally reflective and responsive so that we are inclusive as we work towards excellence and equity.

In the fall of 2020, the district invited all stakeholders to share in this work of becoming more culturally competent and responsive through the creation of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.  This committee engages in the critical conversations that will lead to the fulfillment of our mission to create welcoming and affirming environments, with high expectations for learning where every child sees themselves reflected in their course work and school environment.

From the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee

All East Irondequoit community members are invited to participate in our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, which meets about once each month to study and discuss issues related to diversity, equity, and the "-isms" that keep our society from fulfilling its full potential. The mission of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is to continuously educate ourselves in order to develop systems, structures, and people that are more conscious of differences, more culturally competent, and more culturally reflective and responsive. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is led by district equity facilitators, individuals who are passionate about ensuring that all students and their families are treated without bias. We welcome new members at all times.
